It’s official, today is the Spring Equinox so therefore winter is finally over.. we’ll pretend the weekend’s snow didn’t happen!! My skin is so over the cold weather, I can’t wait to get some seasonal spring-ness into it!! It definitely needs a little helping hand to give it a glow at the moment. I’ve been layering on the skincare which is helping but it still needs a pick up with a little make-up…
A flush of colour on the cheek is THE most quickest way to brightening the complexion. Make it a cream blusher and it’s even quicker. Powder blusher in general needs to sit on top of another powder for it to blend well and look natural; cream blusher on the other hand can be applied straight on top of your moisturiser. Perfect for that natural dewy flush that looks like you’ve just been away on holiday. Also brilliant for skins that are winter parched!! I put cream blusher on almost every face I make-up (except the men…)
Apply the colour with one finger up and along the cheekbone, then blend it in with a clean finger. Keep applying colour and blending until you have your desired look. Be careful of applying colour too close to your nose, as this will draw attention there, instead of lifting the face (unless of course you have a mighty fine nose that you want to show off!!). Also be aware of applying the colour too low, as this can drag the face down.
Cream blusher can sometimes have less staying power than a powder blusher, depending on your skin type, so you could try setting it with a translucent powder or just reapply later in the day when you need a top up. Reapplying later in the day is actually a nice way to give your skin a little moisture boost (if you choose one with lovely ingredients).
I’m currently loving Ilia’s Multi-Sticks; the texture is lovely and creamy, almost butter like. They blend beautifully into the skin, and give a gentle sheen. The colours can be worn very sheer, or you can build the intensity. I like to apply with my fingers, but you could apply straight from the stick and then blend with fingers or a brush.
I’ve got Cheek to Cheek in my kit and I’ve been putting it on so many faces recently and it has been wonderful. It looks quite orange but on it is really fresh and gives skin a healthy lift. I’m a big fan of pink blusher but this is a nice alternative and can appear more natural on warmer tones. Oranges and peaches are great for brightening blue eyes.
There are six Multi-Stick colours – I have three in my kit… (wouldn’t mind a few more!!)
You can see how the colour can be worn quite strong, so great for lips as well. Cheek To Cheek is 100% natural colour, A Fine Romance and At Last have a little food safe synthetic colour.
